Tevyn & Pauline share their passion for couple travelling, interesting and compromising moments between them, and ways to keep love in the air!

Originally from Paris, Tevyn & Pauline met in engineering school in 2016 and started dating a few months later. They travelled during the holidays and every time they had the chance to travel, they did. They loved spending time together and discovering new cultures, food, and places. They decided to quit their jobs after working for a year, leaving everything in France and discovering a boundless world.

Where have you guys been?

We visited a lot of places in Europe such as France, Italy, England, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Malta… We also lived in Singapore for 3 months because we both had an internship there during our studies. We visited some places in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia as well. Then we spent 4 months in Sweden for our last semester of school and travelled within the country! In September 2021, we left for a long trip around the world and visited Peru, Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia. Right now we’re in Costa Rica and we spent Valentine’s Day there.

Which place was the most romantic destination of them all?

There are definitely romantic places in Europe! First of all, we lived together in Paris, which is known as the most romantic city in the world! Then, we really loved Venice in Italy and Santorini in Greece for their romantic atmosphere. These places are really beautiful and romantic.

One of your most memorable backpacking journeys?

One of our most memorable experiences is the ascent of a volcano in Guatemala. We got to see the volcano Fuego erupting. It was a 2 days journey, it was hard but wonderful!

How Can Travel Be Your Lifestyle? Rachel Shares Insights

If you two could live anywhere in the world what would be your first choice and why?

We have not found a perfect place to live in yet! We would love somewhere calm and exciting at the same time. Perhaps somewhere with good weather but not so hot. Living on an island would be great for holidays, but we are used to living in cities because its demography means a lot to us… we are able to do a lot of things and have space at the same time. If we had to choose without knowing, maybe it would be a city in California?

Do you recommend other couples to start travelling like you guys?

Of course, we recommend it! Some people don’t love travelling at all but that is normal. It is not for everyone. But if you love it, doing it as a couple is certainly one of the best experiences in the world. It is the best way to share everything, to learn about one another… I got to learn from him too. It’s enriching and extraordinary!

How should couples plan their travels? Do you guys have any travel or backpacking hacks?

The most important thing is doing things that you want to do. When you are travelling as a couple, you obviously have to agree on where to go, what to do… Make a list of places you wish to visit and share it with your partner to see what you guys have in common. Then you can start planning your travels. During your travels, you can do some activities separately, it is important that both of you are satisfied and do what you want to do. For example, Tevyn wanted to surf in Guatemala and I wanted to take Spanish classes, so we took time for both!

Have you experienced any difficulties in your couple’s travels?

We experienced difficulties in our travels but they were not about us as a couple. They were about illness, bad places or accommodations…

Do you guys feel burnt out by constant travelling?

Yes, then how do you deal with it? No, then how do you go about it? Yes, it is not easy to travel every day. We don’t have a sense of comfort from our house, our benchmarks… But we still enjoy our habits and have each other to count on. But when we feel overwhelmed and we miss home, we always stay positive and the homesickness fades away. We know how much we love travelling and how good it is for us. Usually, if we don’t feel well it’s partly because of the place so we move to a better place! It’s important to always remember why we left and what makes us feel happy.

How did you two manage your travel expenses?

We have a common bank account and we pay everything with it. Then we hold a tab with all our expenses and set an average amount that we would spend per day for every country. It allows us to follow our expenses and be careful when we spend overboard.

What are your top three tips for being full-time travellers?

First, let yourself make the choice. Although our dream destinations change along the trip, we have to stick to one in the end. Second, listen to the locals. They are the people who will give you the best advice. And finally, enjoy! You will have some of the best moments of your life.
